DVD Replication

DVD, also known as Digital Versatile Disc or Digital Video Disc, is an optical disc storage media format, and was founded in 1995.
Its main uses are video and digital data storage (Data storage, video, audio, Xbox, PlayStation 2, Wii, Xbox 360 games).

As the successor media to the compact disc (CD), a DVD can have as much as 26 times the storage capacity of a CD. When compared to CD technology, DVD also allows for better graphics and greater resolution.

In the case of an audio recording, where the data to be stored is in analog rather than digital form, the sound signal is sampled at a rate of 48,000 or 96,000 times a second, then each sample is measured and digitally encoded on the 12cm disc as a series of microscopic pits on an otherwise polished surface.

The disc is covered with a protective, transparent coating so that it can be read by a laser beam. As with other optical disks nothing touches the encoded portion, and the DVD is not worn out by the playing process. Because DVD players are backwards compatible to existing technologies, they can play CD and CD-ROM discs; however, CD players cannot play DVD and DVD-ROM discs. DVDs are of the same dimensions as compact discs (CDs), but store more than six times as much data.

Variations of the term DVD often describe the way data is stored on the discs: DVD-ROM (read only memory) has data that can only be read and not written.

DVD Replication is the professional process where the data and/or audio information is stamped onto the DVD disc, using a Stamper made from a Glass master, which is created from your source master. Each DVD produced is an exact copy of the original master.

DVD Types:

DVD-ROM (Read Only Memory)
A read-only DVD disc used to permanently store data files. DVD-ROM discs are widely used to distribute large software applications that exceed the capacity of a CD-ROM disc. DVD-ROM discs are read in DVD-ROM and DVD-RAM drives in computers, but typically not in DVD drives connected to TVs and home theater systems. However, most DVD-ROM drives will play DVD movie discs.


DVD-Video
A DVD-Video disc is used for displaying full-length digital movies, offering visual quality superior to VHS tapes. A single-sided, single-layer DVD-Video disc holds approximately 133 minutes of full-motion video using MPEG-2 compression. (The 133 minutes is an approximate number, because compression is not a fixed rate. It is based upon the amount of motion taking place in each scene.)
DVD-Video discs can be played in regular DVD players, high-definition Blu-ray players and computer DVD-ROM drives.
Unlike DVD-ROMs, the Digital-Video format includes a Content Scrambling System (CSS) to prevent users from copying discs.
DVD Video also supports features such as menus, selectable subtitles, multiple camera angles, and multiple audio tracks.
Currently, DVD Video is still the dominant form of home video distribution worldwide.

Other Types:

Dual Disc (also known as Hybrid Disc or CDVD)
Dual Disc is a two-sided disc with DVD properties on one side and CD properties on the other side. Although the printed area is more restricted (since data is read from both sides of the disc) the Hybrid disc can allow music industry to have a combination of music video on one side and songs on the other to access all target audiences with just one disc.

DVD-Audio
DVD-Audio is a second-generation digital music format that provides higher sampling rates than audio CDs. Many welcomed the new format, believing that the original audio CD was unable to capture the total sound spectrum, but it never took off.

Black Mirror DVD
  The top substrate of the DVD is made of black plastic so the whole top of the disc is shiny black like a black mirror. This is idea to fit a classic or dark themed package.
White Mirror DVD
  The top substrate of the DVD is made of white plastic so the whole top of the disc is shiny white like a white mirror. With offset print, not only is the print area extended to the very edge of the disc but also the disc will have a shinier white and bolder graphics.
See Through DVD
  The disc is made to be semi-transparent and you can see through it.
